Donkey

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Most people had a donkey in that era. It was an item that was needed and used in the family. Today, you might think of it as your car or your truck—something that is necessary to carry out daily activities in life. The bottom line: the donkey was a “staple”—a necessity of the family. If you owned a donkey…you would have a hard time functioning without it. An unwritten law of that day was that you respected other people’s donkey. In the days of the old west in our nation, an individual could be hung if he stole another man’s horse. To some degree the donkey was viewed that way in the Biblical times.

Therefore when Jesus told his disciples to go into town and take this man’s donkey…that was a serious issue. However, the response was that the man “immediately” said yes to the disciples request when he learned that the “Lord has need of it.” We have no problem at all praying and asking the Lord for issues in our lives. Here, God is doing the asking. Today, is there a donkey, i.e., a talent or skill or even some finances that God is asking of you? What’s your response?
