Watch What You Pray

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

“Oh Lord, Jim is in the hospital…I ask that today you be with him in a special way.” Have you ever prayed or heard someone pray like that? Sometimes our praying sounds good and sounds spiritual, but what in the world does it mean?

Have you ever left your children with a baby sitter? Did you say to your baby sitter, “Suzie, I ask that you be with my children in a special way tonight while we are gone.” I doubt it! You probably said, “Suzie, the children need dinner, the sandwich material is in the fridge and bread in the pantry; after dinner I want you to give them a bath and put the pajamas on that I laid out on their bed; and then I want you to read a Bible story to them—the book is on the night stand and I want them in bed by 9:00 O’clock.”

You would be specific and explicit in your requests of the baby sitter. So why is it when we pray we talk to God in such vague language? Hear me, if you’re in the lion’s den, you had better be praying about the lions; if you’re in a fire, you had better be praying about the flames.

Today, if you have needs…pray and talk to God specifically about those needs
