I have a good friend who was born in Germany and was raised speaking German. Today as a citizen of the USA, he speaks English. Several years ago he returned to his home country. I asked him before he left if he’d be able to speak the language because it had been such a long time since he was in a complete German environment. He was pretty assured he could.

When he returned, I asked about his visit. He said, “I could speak the language and I could understand it, but I no longer could think as a German. I think today as an American.”

If you are a Christian today, you have changed citizenships. You are now a citizen of heaven living temporarily here on this earth. The problem we encounter is this. We don’t think as Christians. We have this tendency to think in the way that we used to think. In other words…too many times we address a dilemma in our lives in the same approach that we used to use.

Today, have your actions been characteristic of your current citizenship?
